Happy mail day

A box from kelly arrived in the mail for reyna. She wite patiently (sorta) for the end of the day so we could  video chat with kelly. Kelly watched while reyna opened the box and unwrapped all the gifts inside. The candy was a huge hit in fact reyna requested it for breakfast the next day.

Random acts of Christmas kindness 2015 edition

The kids painted rocks and then left them
In different places around town

Popcorn at the Redbox machine

Candy canes left on cars in parking lots
The younger two were quite stealth at this

Chalk messages. ..I had the most fun
Watching yahaira,and rosie do this
They were careful to not be caught
And quick at drawing a message to
Bring a smile

Left on a few cars

Delivering cribbage boards to a teacher for her class

Gift cards handed to strangers

Money taped to vending machines

And cookies for neighbors
Just a few things left to check off the list and the 2015 rack's will be in the books.
When we started doing this 3 years ago the kids were reluctant and worried they would get caught or get in trouble... quickly they discovered the fun in giving, the joy in surprising others. Now they start planning months before December what activities they want to do.

Christmas book

Saw this on Facebook recently and loved discovering a tradition so similar to one we do every Christmas

The 1st book...my favorite picture book

Nursery rhymes. .because they are timeless

The movie came out in 2009 it seemed like the
Perfect tie-in

Another favorite story of mine

I loved this story as a child

A favorite of the older kids now shared with the younger ones

Beckie saw this book and suggested
I use it for the book that year. Proceeds from the book went towards a family whose young child had cancer.

I love Mercer Mayer books, this one is my favorite.

Reyna's favorite book joins the list this year.
In 2007 I started a new tradition with the younger kids in our family. Their older three siblings had received an ornament each year and when they joined our family so did they. When we knew they would be joining our family permanently I had wanted a tradition that was unique to them thus the book each Christmas tradition was born.  The books are picture books, some our my favorites others hold a special meaning to the kids or an event from that year.  I picture someday when they have their own children they will have this mini library of childhood favorites to share perhaps creating their own traditions.

May the force be with you

even the youngest are excited for the new star wars movie opening this weekend.

her older brother found these while we were shopping in target.  He found another pair that had the star wars logo scattered all over it. When I asked which one she wanted she chose these.  "I think I'm more of a Darth girl" was her reason.

Johnny week 3

Friday Johnny spent the day in the refrigerator where many of the items had eyes.
there were giggles all day long every time a child opened the fridge door to grab the milk or
juice.

napping on Saturday, this elf gig is exhausting

Sunday Johnny was back on the tree (Kevin's go to place whenever it's his turn to move the elf)
That angel has graced the top of our tree for 26 years. I remember seeing it on a store shelf before Christmas the year we moved into our 1st home. I had always enjoyed precious moments items loving their whimsy and innocence.   It was not in our very stretched budget to buy the angel,  being first time home owners comes with a lot of extra costs so I started saving thinking the next year we could add the angel to our Christmas collection.  My aunt surprised me a few weeks before Christmas, (she had been with me when I first saw the angel) with the money to purchase the angel.  "you should always have things that you love around you" she said "I want to give this to you so you will remember your first Christmas in your home"

Monday Johnny brought cookie mix and suggested the kids bake cookies
for the neighbors.  (trying to spill more giving into the kids Christmas than receiving)

Tuesday Johnny picked Yahaira's art work as the place to spend the day.  She is my selfie expert and insisted she needed to take a selfie of her and Johnny.

Wednesday Johnny left a note or two or three.

Thursday finds Johnny on the wreath on our door. This wreath has an ornament
from each year we've been married.  32 ornaments in all.
