RAD Zoo

after a presentation there was the opportunity to touch a snake...

they were the first in line
(do you see the size of that snake?)
(do you see the size of Reyna?)
(that would explain my paleness and sketchy breathing)

located in Owatonna, we spent sunday afternoon exploring this place...
filled with turtles (those I could handle) snakes (oh bother they were everywhere)
and crocodiles (big and small)
they fed turtles and watched that big crocodile being fed a chicken (yes a chicken)
learned about colorful frogs and watched a lizzard eating...
it was the longest 3 hours of my life..
they loved it!

Railroad Days Parade

a day that threatened to rain but by parade time the sun was out and it was a perfect night for
being outdoors...

there was a group of us gathered in our spot
(do you see the price of gas? sad, just sad.)

this is the most requested radio station whenever we go anywhere.

gracie marching with the monster band

SuFuDu

Anthony marching with the boyscouts

on the lookout for more candy

Larry

Rosie with her dance group

gracie, olivia and yahaira

she said it was most fun handing out candy..

Railroad Days fun Run

Gracie stopped the night of the run and asked if Anthony wanted to join her
off they went...

this year just the two of them ran...in previous years cassandra or beckie has joined them
so proud of both of them for running the full run, neither opted to run in the kids options and instead did the full course around the lake.
way to go!

PowWow parade

held every year in a nearby town...
something I have attended since I was a little girl
something those older kids still like to attend, since they too have been
going since they were tiny...and these youngest ones? it's a parade and they love
parades.  This year they watched Gracie marching always so exciting when you know
someone in the parade.

Happy Father's Day...

A few months ago Kevin's family donated the flag that had been presented to them when his dad died, to the historical society in St. James.  They had asked if it would be possible to fly the flag on father's day.  A few days ago a member of the historical society contacted kevin to set up a time to
arrange that...friday afternoon kevin along with his mom and sister Sheila raised the flag.
Kevin's dad died on father's day (june 19th) 51 years ago.  The flag presented to the family
at the funeral had never been unfolded or flown...until this weekend.
It was a pretty special moment for kevin's family.   Paying tribute to the dad they lost
when they were so very young.

picking strawberries

saturday morning we headed out early to pick strawberries
the kids were pretty sleepy until we got to Heron Lake and then they perked up with curiousity.
Linda and family joined us, it was their first time picking berries at this farm
we were give a few rows to pick
this one surprised me with how quickly she figured out what to do..quite quickly her little
bowl would be filled and she would be bringing it to me to dump it and hurry off to pick more
blueberries (yes we were picking strawberries but she was insistent that they were blueberries)
she was more inclined to take pictures, and generally find anything to do other than pick berries

not so excited about the picking part but certainly enjoyed the strawberry shakes
we made after we returned home and had all the berries cleaned and in the freezer
she jumped right in, picking and talking
sunshine, outdoors, dirt and a farm...life is good for this girl in this element
all done picking and heading back to the checkout station

 42 pounds or berries
many frozen in our freezer to enjoy throughout the coming months
many more enjoyed as we cleaned
some made their way into shakes and a cake
we are enjoying that too
