Controlled burn

A house down the block was used by the fire department for some practice burns on Sunday.  
Very interesting to watch the different departments go inside the burning house for teaching and practice and then to watch them burn the house down.
Nice to see the abandoned home removed from the neighborhood

sunday september 8th was dedicated to the 25th anniversary of the ELCA
Churches belonging to the elca celebrated all over the country going out into their communities to do community service projects.  There are two churches in our town that participated.  After church there was a brunch and then the groups headed out to do their service...one group rebuilt flower boxes and painted picnic talbes, another group washed windows at local gas stations, yet another did some work at the humane society, another group baked cookies and delivered them and one more group tied quilts.  what an awesome day spent as a family and with our church community.

Clay county fair

We headed to Spencer, Iowa to the clay county fair. The girls along with Olivia went to the Bridget Mendler concert. (the star of the Disney channel show Good Luck Charlie)  Before the concert we wandered around the fairgrounds and of course at fair food.  Yahaira was super excited to discover a gluten free option!  Home by midnight made for a very long day for two girls...

today was back to school...
it was a wonderful busy summer .... but it was time (oh was it time) to head back to the school routine.
