Brilliant
Best gift ever!! some people in your life are gifts and sometimes you
are reminded of just how beautifully gifted you are by a simple act of
kindness from them. While explaining in detail to this person how this
week had stacked up (okay I was whining in a way that would have
impressed my five year old) I explained how one little wonder didn't
just consume all of his valentine candy in one afternoon but the next
day ate all his sisters and was making a good dent in another
sisters candy...that most certainly he should still be orbiting
distant solar systems because goodness knows all that sugar comes with
some ugly side affects. I did confess that being the stellar parent I am
I removed all candy from every cupboard and drawer and promptly
disposed of it because repeating that sugar overload was not something I
ever wanted to experience again. Which means that later when I went
looking for chocolate there was none. Yea me for being so thorough and
determined to make my point. She laughed and suggested I needed to find a
hiding spot they wouldn't find. I doubted that such a thing was
possible. So when she appeared later and handed me the box of bounce
and i looked at her confused she smiled and suggested I peak inside.
She is brilliant! Not only because she brought me chocolate but that is
seriously the best idea ....I'm completely certain that no one in this
house will ever discover that chocolate source.

New blog
I wonder what she is thinking....
This is where i find her during the Christmas season. Often just staring at the tree sometimes reaching out to touch an ornament or to peak from a different angle a few times I have found her asleep in front of the tree. She loves the lights especially at night. So do i, there is such calm about a room filled with the soft glow of the lights from the tree.
She is the latest in a long line of children who are drawn to that space, that tree, who love to hear the stories that go with the ornaments hanging on the tree. She will point at one and ask where did it come from? Who did it come from? Why did you buy it. As I answer her questions it is like a little revisit to the past for me..... That one we bought when we traveled to Florida. This one aunt linette sent us when she lived on Whidbey Island. That's buttercup the kitty that once lived in our home. One will always ask which was the first ornament you bought and I will point to a little yellow sock doll. "Did you really have 5 ornaments on the tree the first year you were married?" They ask with wonder. They've heard this story many times. Now they tell the stories. Remember we bought this little mermaid when yahaira thought she was a mermaid the year she was two? We picked this train because Dad loves trains. And on and on the stories go.
When we decorated that first tree over 30 years ago I could have filled in the spaces with a few sets of color matched bulbs but that wasn't the vision I had for our tree. I knew I wanted it to reflect us and our life. So year by year that is exactly what happened as we added a few ornaments each year. Not in any particular hurry to fill the branches to make the tree full. Instead just collecting moments and stories to be shared again and again.

growing gummy bears
Yahaira has been working on her science fair project. She decided to test how gummy bears would react in different liquids. It was fun at first but now that it's down to the wire it has taken much poking and prodding to get her to complete the assignment. The actually experiment was completely fun...eating gummy bears was the highlight but oh that writing and documenting is so tedious.
Trying to not think about the fact that there are 3 more kids to go which will equal 6 more science fair projects.

Hot tubs
"Mom, they have a hot tub in the bathroom!" she exclaimed as she raced
into the restoom ahead of me. As I rounded the corner I saw what had
captured her attention. I could understand her confusion to one her
size it would have made the perfect sized hot tub. I explained it's a
sink and showed her how to step on the bar near the floor to activate
it...she nearly jumped out of her skin when the water showered out and
then giggled at her surprise. It didn't take long before her hands
were playing in the water "it's like a shower for my hands" she said.

A wee bit tired
She was up until 1230 the night before we had to be out the door by 730 the next morning. I was certain the day was going to filled with attitude and melt downs due to her lack of sleep. Surprisingly she was simply quieter.

100th day of school
reyna had to bring 100 items to school, she picked Q-tips. One student brought 100 toys, "oh my" I said that is a lot of toys. "It was!" she answered. She made a snack of 100 and made a crown.
Pedro also had a crown and a snack that made "100" and he made a picture.
Both were very excited to celebrate the 100th day of school.
