the annual bookfair was held last Thursday at school.
Always fun to go and check out the new books and pick out a few to add to our collection.

2nd grade dance program

these are the pictures I got, the other dozen or so were blurry or missing the child who was performing.
sigh, I wasn't able to attend and so I shouldn't complain, but most likely I will a wee bit, about the quality of photos and once could say at least you got a few. true, but I would have enjoyed a few more.
He was not to excited about this and not he doesn't generally wear his jeans rolled up, at least I don't believe he does, but it was crazy sock day for I love to read month and I'm guessing he wanted to share his mismatched socks :)

she was highly uninterested and it involved a bit of creative manipulation to get her help.
when all was said and done she was pretty excited...

It's Monday!

and that means it's snowing.
(these were taken last monday, yes I am just that slow at posting)
but, guess what? the weather outside my window is equally dismal this monday morning and if we had school (which we don't because someone decided it would be a good experiment in cost saving measures to not hold classes on Monday's during the winter) we would be at least two hours late like all the other towns around us.
sigh, I no longer wonder if it is spring yet and now just wonder will it ever end?

bilibo chair

I knew as soon as I laid eyes on this chair that it would be a tremendous hit with the daycare kids...
designed to be sit in and sat on, standing on it works as does spinning, the ways it can be used is limitless, love that it encourages them to explore and use their brains. It makes no sounds, requires no batteries, and is completely kid run.

snow cream

a tweet I read on Saturday referring to snow cream struck me as worth exploring a bit more. I had never heard of snow cream and found myself curious as to what this might be. The tweet was from someone who lives in Nashville, and in case you were living under a rock the Nashville area was hit with a snowstorm this weekend, a rather uncommon event for that area. This person tweeted that they were going to make snow cream. I have to admit after googling snowcream I too found that it would be a rather fun activity to try. Dare I admit I hoped for some newly fallen snow so that we too cold try our hand at snow cream? I did wish for that, (I know after all that whining I have done about all the snow we have I did actually wish for more) Well today my wish was granted (don't shoot me, I promise to not wish for any more snow this season, truly I won't) so I sent the kids out with a bowl and spoons requesting only newly fallen snow,and cautioned once and twice and then once more just to be sure that we only wanted white snow and nothing they had walked thru. Once gathered we commenced with creating snow cream Snow cream for those like me who had never heard is like ice cream, only better. This said by several of my kids today. We mixed milk, sugar and vanilla stirred in snow and enjoyed. It does taste amazing, and I would vote for it over ice cream, of course I'm not a huge ice cream fan. It didn't take long for that big bowl to disappear.
the recipe we used is:
1 cup milk
1/2 cup sugar
1 tsp vanilla
3 quarts fresh snow
(you know the white newly fallen stuff, no colored snow for this recipe)

Freeze your caboose off...

4 mile walk/run
we walked 4 miles
temp 6 degrees
one can sweat in these temps
one can loose feeling in their legs and nose
and apparently one can still smile (or perhaps that is a grimace)
24 hours later...one can have pain in muscles that are screaming "are you an idiot?"

Danceline Extravaganza

Saturday night was the annual danceline extravaganza. This was Yahaira's 3rd year and Rosie's 1st year.
as always a wonderful show and the girls are already talking about next year.

chef's in training...

an always popular toy is the felt food, hours can be spent cooking and playing with this.
Thanks to kelly for sewing so many of these pieces for us.
Thank goodness I have a few of these go to toys for these incredible long winter months when everything becomes boring and everyone is tired of the same old thing.

Rosie helped put the cheese on our pizza...apparently she was in an extra cheesy mood.
