What an experience!

5th and 6th grade

5th grade

It was an early wake up time, in order to make it to the Target Center by 10.
Your team played at 10:30. (they begin playing teams at 7:30 on game days I was so happy that you were the last team to play and not the first) For one hour you played on a court that basketball stars have played, you were unimpressed just there to enjoy your last game of the season.

last basketball game of the season

arriving at target center early in the morning
we left home at 7 and arrived a little before 10

target center home of the minnesota timberwolves

warming up

ready to play...you seemed quite unimpressed with playing on the court, at times I wondered if you
even noticed.  I think the adults were more excited by this experience.

snowy days...

are perfect for playing outside...
she could barely contain the excitement of going out to play in the snow.
we have had so little snow that to her this is a rare experience.

while getting ready she told me I'm going to make a snow angel and indeed that is the
very first thing she did...

this one spent the entire afternoon outside and reluctantly came in as the sun set.
Friday was our first snow day of the year (we have had snow here and there, but this was the first day school was cancelled due to the snow)

Daycare Valentine Party...

the excitement and energy was off the charts...
they just knew it was a special day, and that those bags contained
wonders and treats and valentines from their friends.
It is a BIG deal this valentine business when you are little
(big deal when your older too, even tho some of us try to say it isn't)
she looked over each card ...twice

and held up each treat with a squeal of joy
she reminded me of the simple joy in giving and recieving
how a tiny card with a cartoon character on it signed with a shaky signature
taped to a piece of candy is the best gift ever....because it came from a friend
and it says I like you.  simple, no strings, no conditions
these little people get it...

heart shaped pizza from Jake's rounded out the afternoon party.

science fair project

all supplies assembled...time to get to work.
he started the testing on February 3 it had to run for 10 days, the projects due date the 15.
I'll do the math for you it was cutting it way too close.
the result a stressed out mom, a laid back kid, and chaos for most of this week.

labeling the cups salt water, and plain water

the finished board...completed last night.  late last night.
he did a great job...knew his material and weathered his mom's freak out moments.
that is award worthy right there.

fruit roll-up

she has never had one....ever.
and of course it was the first thing she chose to eat from her treats
(and even tho the war inside me wanted to direct her in another direction at glance at her treats showed me nothing was really any more of a healthy choice. ) So I nodded yes and she grinned.
quickly unwrapping this treat uncovering the long, sugary rope of refined processed sugar (sorry, just couldn't help myself) and then she stopped puzzled...not quite sure how one should eat this wonder.
She licked it like a sucker...not so successful
tried sucking it....again not quite working
and then she figured it out...chewing her way through all that sugary goodness.

cassandra feeling left out jumped into this photo...
sigh those babies are competitive are they not?

and reyna's response to having her photo op invaded...
they are perfect each other
