Ringing in the new year

Once again we spent new years eve with linda and family.  Homemade pizza and movies were the plan.  Unfortunately this year I didn't stay awake to ring in the new year.  Linda left at 1030 to run her grandson home and I fell asleep instantly.

Play kitchen

We set the play kitchen up this week in the daycare room.  I noticed as we unpacked the dishes and food that we didn't have a coffee pot.  So off to amazon I went and discovered that coffee pots have changed a lot even in kids play form.  Here is the one I selected which looks a lot like the kuerig coffee maker sitting in our kitchen.  This one even has cups just like the ours.  There were traditional coffee pots of course but when buying for the daycare I always look for wood or natural toys rather than plastic.  This one fit my criteria the best.  I also decided to add a blender (now called juicer) to our play kitchen.   The daycare kids were pretty excited by these additions.

Snow days

Christmas break is naturally a more relaxed time..no early bedtime. Sleeping in. Wearing your pj's all day.  Add in two snowstorms and things become even more relaxed, more simple.
We've spent a lot of our days building with duplos, coloring, watching movies, baking , and putting together puzzles.

Another snowstorm

Monday brought the 2nd snowstorm of the season (just 2 days after the 1st) this one dumped 11 inches on us, much to the kids delight.  They spent hours outside playing and sledding.  When they came in to warm up they were snow covered head to toe. It almost felt like a mini snowstorm indoors as they unbundled all their layers.

Following the star

I loved this addition to our Christmas traditions.  The kids really enjoyed searching for the star and moving the Wiseman to it each day. It was a great hands on way to tell the Christmas story and when the star arrived at the stable christmas morning it just made the story come to life.

A Charlie Brown Christmas

We were given tickets to a performance of a Charlie Brown Christmas a Stages theater. The Brad Wing fund and MOFAS gifted our family with the tickets.
It is one of our family's favorite Christmas stories.  Despite the biggest snowfall of the season we made it!  Stages just does theater for kids right  from the opening so d my kids were captivated.  I loved seeing the smiles on their faces as they watched the a story unfold.
My favorite scene is when Linus says "I can tell you the meaning of Christmas Charlie Brown" and then tells the Christmas story.  Seeing it live was a moment I will always treasure.  Reyna and pedro loved Lucy and snoopy.  The kids enjoyed meeting the cast after the performance and we snapped several pictures.  We are so blessed to have these kids in our lives, sharing moments like this with them is just one of the countless moments that reminds us how beautifully blessed we are.

When snow is in the forecast

What do you do when the biggest snowstorm of the season is forecasted for the day you have travel plans two hours away? You make a very last minute decision to travel the night before and beat the snowy weather.  We had tickets for stages theater for Saturday December 26 and when weather alerts started showing  up on my phone early in the day Christmas day I kept an eye on the weather and finally after seeing the projected snowfall and knowing we would have to be on the road early we just decided to get a hotel room and not add the element of snow covered roads into our travel plans.  At 6pm we decided, by 7 we headed out the door arriving at our hotel in Bloomington a little after 9.  We woke to alot of snow, just as predicted.  The kids enjoyed swimming in the morning and we all enjoyed the worry free drive to the theater.  The drive home was on clear roads.  I'm just glad we removed some stress from our plans by going the night before.
