We wait
For this day all winter long.
The day when the temps move into the 50's and the sun shines strong.
Because that means it's time to dust off the the ride on toys. Open up a new box of chalk. Refill the bubble containers and move our play back outdoors.
For now we are confined to the driveway the play area is one sloppy muddy mess but no one seems to mind. Every one is just so happy to be outside.

Wet brush
She doesn't like to comb her hair. It is a battle every morning. Under those long layers are curls which makes combing through a challenge.
One night a fee weeks ago after her shower I was attempting to comb her hair. ..and then I discovered a knot of hair I picked and brushed and worked at it for what felt like days (a good hour at least) and finally got a scissor as I snipped out the worst and combed through more we finally got through it. It looked good except for the gap of missing hair which then required trimming the rest of her hair to make it even. 6 inches later her hair looked great. She panicked a bit when she saw all the hair in the garbage but when she combed through her hair the next morning with relative ease she decided she liked the new shorter length.
She found this wet brush while shopping with cassandra and it is a wonder.... she actually laughs now when she combs her hair these days.

Book fair
We love going to the annual book fair the elementary school hosts each year.
This year our schedule was filled to the brim so only one child got to attend the actual fair the rest gave me there book wish list. Reyna and kasandra helped me search for books and when I finally got home later that evening all were happy to see their new books.

Gosling costume
Reyna has a class play on March 13th
A note came home weeks ago asking to make a costume for her. I headed to amazon looking for an already made costume. Apparently gosling costumes are not a big seller (I had to Google gosling just to be sure what I was working with) there were none. Plan B I bought a white sweatshirt with hood and orange leggings. White feathers and orange felt. Figuring I could create something. Famous last words.
Gluing feathers is an ugly job...at one point there were feathers stuck everywhere except for where I wanted them to be. The daycare kids had a blast watching me make the costume.
Finally it started to resemble a gosling wuth a little sewing a lot more feathers and some creative use of our cleaners the costume was complete all that remained was reyna trying it on. Which she did when she got home from school

Blue ribbon
Yahaira came in the door so excited to show me that she received a blue ribbon on her science fair project.
I forced a smile and got out a way to go with some semblance of excitement.
Sigh...inside I was thinking "darn it girl couldn't you have got a red or yellow or white ribbon?" Anything that would have meant we wouldnt have had to advance to the reginals. She can't wait!

Prairie Home Companion
So tonight I saw Garrison Keillor in a tiny little town a short distance away. We were gifted with the tickets to see the show.
Kevin has made me listen to a Prairie Home Companion countless times. Anytime we would be traveling in the evening on the weekend the radio would be tuned to public radio. I couldn't understand the appeal and would often roll my eyes and stare out the window...bored. Until eventually I started to listen and laugh now and again. Perhaps it was it grew on me or I grew up?
So when asked if I would like to see Mr. Keillor I wasn't opposed to the opportunity but I knew that this had been a dream of Kevin's forever. Linda and Larry joined us tonight...we dined on hot dish, green bean casserole and jello. When Mr Keillor took the stage you were mesmerized...to actually see a person and not just hear a voice was pretty cool. He led the crowd In songs...so amazing to be a part of. Told stories in his trademark way. Just being in that space and hearing his voice was a moment not soon to forget. Spending the evening with good friends was just a bonus.
