sewing

I don't sew. I don't.
and yet last Friday I found myself doing that very thing.
sigh...no I am not exactly sure how that happened.
It began with a simple request by my niece in response to my question of what she would like for her birthday.
"a sewing machine" she replied. So one was purchased by me and given to her.
simple. well it should have been.
until the reality that someone would have to show her how to use the machine.
and somehow that someone became me.
did I mention I don't sew? I did? well believe me I do not exaggerate when I say I know nothing about sewing.
So I found myself on Etsy searching (retail therapy always helps when I am stressed)
when I quite by accident stumble upon diy kits for sewing. What is a diy kit? Someone had the brilliant idea to take a pattern, cut out the material and package it with very simple basic instructions and call it a kit. I call it amazing.
So a few kits were ordered they arrived and after I read thru the instructions and found I was still able to breath calmly I figured we might just be able to do this. So Thursday night I attempted to sew one of the kits, one I had ordered in Reyna's size. Thinking perhaps I should give it a go before I actually attempted to help Gracie. The instructions were filled with pictures and one sentence steps. (really simple) only when it came time to turn that little top the correct way did I create a few words and steam may have rolled off my head but within an hour the top was completed. All survived, no fingers were maimed and I had actually made a reversible top for one little person in my home. The next day Gracie arrived and we started with a simple project...a bag once completed we moved onto her dress a beautiful blend of red, black and yellow material which once completed was absolutely stunning. Needless to say she was thrilled and put it on right away grinning at her accomplishment. Not to be left out Rosie and Yahaira also wanted to sew and so they too made their own tote bags. All around excitement filled the house as they completed their first sewing attempt.
