RACK'S

25 days of RACK's

This looks like a pic of a couple of my kids smiling for the camera but the picture within this picture is in the background. There on that bench behind that small one, if you squint and tilt your head a bit you will see that tiny whitish blob upon that cushion. It's a dinosaur. Their mission was to place it somewhere for someone to find. The dinosaur had a tag attached saying "you found me, I'm yours" the hope to simply surprise someone and bring a smile to their face.
We have been doing RACK'S during the Christmas season for several years. With so many small ones in the house and a society that bombarded us with messages for months about all we need for Christmas I simply wanted something that would focus more on giving rather than getting. Thus was born our families 25 days of RACK'S. Each year we make a list, the kids contribute ideas on what they want to do. Some are repeated every year, candy caning a parking lot never gets old. Some are new, delivering hot chocolate to teachers or staff was suggested by one this year.
They are getting quite good at being sneaky and stealth. I think it's part of the reason they love this, how often are you encouraged to be sneaky? Another part is the element of surprising another in an unexpected way. I often hear "it made my day to see their shocked face turn into a smile. " They are starting to get this kindness thing....
This year more than any other we have received so many messages and comments from others about this tradition. I've lost count the number of times I've heard "i want to start doing this." I love hearing that! Perhaps this year more than any other our world needs to be sprinkled with kindness, it's been a tough and challenging year for far too many, not just in our families but all over the world. So as our family draws to the end of our 25 days of RACK'S I encourage you to sprinkle a little random kindness in your part of the world I guarantee it will put a smile in your heart and on your face. Merry Christmas!
