Early entrance conferences
Monday night Reyna and Pedro had entrance conferences they were able to meet their teachers, see their classrooms and find their lockers.
First day of school...
Monday, September 11, for middle and high school. Tuesday September, 12 for elementary. Following is a Facebook post about the youngest two's 1st day....
And today these two joined the back to school crew.... "I am soooooo ready for 2nd grade" the youngest announced before the sun had woke this morning. And then said "why is it so dark?" "It's 4:01" I mumbled. One of us is going to crash before days end. Pedro quietly waited for his bus this morning, telling me one more time the directions to his classroom. "What if I get lost?" "There will be someone to ask" I reminded him. "Will you miss me today?" I nodded and said "of course" as he got on his bus he flashed me his grin and called I love you over his shoulder. This morning this momma cried as his bus pulled away not because I was sad to see him go, he is so ready for this new adventure, but simply because of the ordinary back to school morning exchange we shared. Ordinary and simple have never been part of his routine.
God's work Our hands
An annual event held each year in Septemeber with our church. This year we painted picnic tables at the park.
Ustachlung
Heritage village in Mt. Lake held their annual Utschtallung celebration today. The last time we were there was 8 years ago.... beautiful temps and sunny skies made it a perfect day to explore buildings and try many new foods with names we couldn't pronounce. We sampled fresh churned butter and home made ice cream. We met countless people who patiently answered our questions and shared stories in each building we explored. Tucked away in one building we discovered a photo of one near and dear to us. When I pointed it out to the youngest her reply was "Wait how did a picture of Grandpa get here!" I explained it was his senior picture in high school. "He used to live here?" She asked puzzled and I was reminded that she is still so new to our family's story and there is still so much history she has yet to learn. "He still looks the same" she said. As we prepared to leave one circled back to chat with the lady giving out crackers and butter and two more headed to the building with Porzeilke and Roll Cuka for one more order to go. "These are the best!" They decided "Even if we can't pronounce their name."
New Schools
Our community began a very large school improvement project last spring. The kids got out of school very early in May and were scheduled to return much later than normal in the fall. Thursday night was an open house in bith schools where we had an opportu it to see the new additions and changes made...its a pretty exciting time for my kids to have the opportunity to learn in these new updated spaces.
Back to school night
Last Thursday was the annual open house at the High School. This year is was combined with a school wide open house showcasing all the improvements and additions made to the schools this year. This is Rosies first year atbthe High school/Middle school so we spent extra time finding her rooms and locker. Yahaira and Rosie will have chromebooks this year so we also got that arranged for rhem.
