Happy St. Patrick's Day!

she is my believer in magic and fairies and leprechans
she insisted as we drew closer to March 17th that it was important to wear green
(you will get pinched she said)
she believed that a leprechan would visit out house and cause all sorts of mischeif....

well she was right...he pee'd in the toilet
the proof was in the footprints she pointed out, no one in the house had feet this tiny

changed our milk to his favorite color...green of course

she built and tweeked her trap...her goal catching this magical little wee person
and yet this morning when she noticed the cover down and the trap sprung she was most
hesitant to peer inside to see what she captured..."what if I caught him" she wondered

she seemed a bit relieved when she saw she had not caught him...
instead he had left her a note and a rainbow...with clues that there were more rainbows hidden
throughout the house for the other kids

she has been telling everyone about the antics of "ou" leprechan
with the biggest grin on her face...
I think the rest of the kids are believing too...swayed by her oh so contagious excitement
with st patrick's day and those magical little wee folk.

then and now

this past week has brought unheard of temps in our part of the world
60, 70 almost 80....in March!
above is what the rug near the entry looks like flip-flops, boots and shoes

and this is what should be filling that space above
boots, all sizes of boots
which have now been moved to this location
waiting for the possibility of normal winter weather to return

a box of kleenex

will provide hours of entertainment for this age group.
hours.
I had seen and created a bucket using pieces of material for the kids to pull out of
the idea being more sensory since the fabric I used was all sorts of textures.
one night while browsing Pinterest I saw an idea of putting fabric inside a baby wipe
container....brilliant!  So last night I dug out the fabric bucket and retrieved the saved baby wipe container
and there she sat for the longest time pulling them out and putting them back in.

pinewood derby car races

Thursday night was the annual Boy Scout derby car races
this is his 4th year participating in this event.
this year he won a trophy for his level...by default
no one else showed up to race a car.
Josh took him this year which had anthony super excited, he loves spending time with his big
brother.  Both came home with ideas for next years car.

bandaids

with the incredible nice weather it was inevitable that scrapes and bumps would happen
she paved the way needing not one or two bandaids but 5.

owls

she worked quietly for quite some time...concentrating on her task with her usual zeal. when completed she excitedly called for me
"to come see my owls" and there they were, like a rainbow. Owls of every color (well every color available in the playdoh package)
this child is my creative soul..it is her most happy place.

sidewalk art

a true sign that spring is inching closer, the art that appears on the driveway each time we venture outdoors during these last weeks of winter. Love the colorful bright designs when I glance out the window. LOVE that we are finally outdoors each day, if only for a little bit.

Dinner last night...

hamburgers on the grill, combined with eating outside....this winter has been nothing short of weird (in a good way) little to no snow
mild temps, have spoiled us this winter. But a 63 degree day on march 6th is nothing to take for granted and so we embraced it as though we had, had a normal wintery, blustery, snowy season, knowing that even for this mild winter this, this was a true gift. To excited cheers as I pulled the grill out to the eager anticiaption of eating hamburgers cooked outdoors (they do taste so much better that way) to the natural request to eat dinner outside stacked up to a full, complete day spent outside. Oh how we have missed our time spent in just this way.

Happy Birthday Dr. Suess

Last Friday we celebrated Dr. Suess' birthday. We read his classic stories, including my all time favorite Gree Eggs and Ham.
Naturally we had green eggs and ham for lunch, love watching the kids hesitant approach to this meal and then their excited delight when they realize that they do indeed like green eggs and ham. For snack a cat in the hat hat. Dr Suess's stories are timeless, appealing to both young and old alike what a gift he was to little kids and their families all over the world.

A day spent shopping

With a great group of ladies. Our plan scrapbook shopping our destination St. Cloud and the biggest craft store I have visited.  A stop for breakfast in Hutchison and a stop at a scrapbook store was the first activity for our day. Then in to Crafts Direct.  What a place, what selection and fun finds.  It seemed we were done until a decision to go look at one more going by some. And so round two seemed to become the theme of the day.  Out for Lunch and then a return to Hutchison for a stop at Target. Where chocolate was purchased and consumed on the ride home. A decision to stop in new ulm at yes another Target was made. (Yes the chocolate  was "that" good and its Target another visit is always good).  Home 12 hours after I left. A fun day spent with amazing people. Now my head is filled with scrapping and crafting ideas....I just need to find the time.  Can't wait to do it again

the view out my window this morning

not an unusual site in late April or May but in February it is unheard of. rain yesterday, joined by thunder and lightening last night and more rain has created a lake in the back yard. This morning that rain switched over to snow and the kids currently have chairs lined up and are watching the snowfall. something they haven't been able to do to often this winter.
