Rosie is our in house leprechaun authority...every year she plans and perfects her trap making skills...
every year she eagerly awaits the approach of March 17th...
this year she started weeks ago, thinking about and planning her trap, one day she came home from school and said "did you know a leprechauns favorite food is mashed potatoes and gravy?" "I did not" I replied. last night the flurry of trap building and planning was in full swing, it didn't seem to matter to her that it was inching towards 10 and her momma was getting a wee bit tired. And then the realization that we had not made the leprechauns favorite food, this was at 9:30 pm mind you, sigh a Rosie melt down was beginning, honestly this momma could have melted down right along with her. A deep breathe and the reminder to myself that his magic, this wonder, the childish belief, won't last forever and it is my duty to protect and encourage it...and so at 9:30 we were cooking potatoes, we compromised on the gravy, with the mom verdict that in some cultures butter is gravy (I make gravy once a year and that would be turkey day) a very happy little girl went to sleep last night with visions of leprechauns in her head...
and awoke to this, this morning
a sprung trap, leprechaun juice (sprite) and a note explaining that she had done an awesome job of
setting a trap but alas leprechauns possess special magic (of course they do) and can make doors to escape whenever a crafty child is able to capture them...but our little leprechaun visitor did leave behind some gold and a special leprechaun princess crown for Rosie for believing and encouraging the magic that is those wee little green folk.
