Birdfeeders

saw this idea on a blog a few days ago and thought it would make an awesome gift for Kevin for Valentine's day.  So the morning before valentine's day (note to self one should start sooner when the gift involves freezing water, yes even in the frozen tundra it does take time to solidly freeze something) I pulled out the supplies and then discovered that I only had two colors of food coloring...yellow and blue which let me make three colors total. sigh, this was not going as planned.  I filled the balloons with water and food coloring placed them into bowls and plopped them on the porch, well kevin did it was very cold outside.  (yes I realize it's uncool to have someone help make their gift, but he had no idea it was a gift)  next I filled the pie tins with water and then placed them outside I did actually help with this simply because my explanation of what to do with the bowl and canned vegetables was not being transmitted in a way that made sense I guess.  Later that night the kids and I brought the frozen (semi-frozen) balloons and pie tins in and then assembled them in the back yard...bless anthony's heart for being the outdoor person while handed the pieces out the window to him (seriously have I mentioned it 's cold here??)  the balloons weren't frozen solid and the green one didn't seem destined to become a bird feeder since I cracked the pie tin part as I tried to remove it and when anthony placed the balloon on the ground the water leaked out the bottom.  The next day the daycare kids enjoyed looking at the colorful birdfeeders in the yard.
