Sons of the pioneers

Last night Linda and I attended a concert in windom it was a part of the concert association program we joined this year.  We agreed when we joined that we would attend every concert offered even if we didn't think it was in our music category.
I have to admit that last night's concert wasn't in my love column and had we not agreed to go to "every" concert the blustery cold night would have been reason enough to stay home.
After dinner at the River City Eatery we headed up the block to the Barq center .....From the first song I was transported back to a time when my biggest worry was how much time I would be able to spend outside.  I had recognized the groups name and knew that it would have been a concert my dad would have lived what I didn't expect was the flood of memories those songs brought back to me.  Riding in the back seat of the car looking at the stars, listening to my dad singing along  to the radio as we drove home from a visit at my grandmas.  Standing on the seat in my dad's truck as he drive along country roads hunting whatever animal was in season. The radio playing, his voice singing along.  (yes i did say standing these were the days long before car seats or seat belts) Watching tv which was usually on a channel showing my Dads taste in tv viewing. My sister and i didnt have a choice in what show we watched we were simply the channel changers. ( yes this was before the invention of the remote)The songs being performed last night were the songs of my early years, songs I heard time and time again. Songs that were woven into so many early memories.  Last night as memory after memory drifted around me with each song I realized what a beautiful gift it was and how powerful music can be.
