no power

the view in my home a little after 7am this morning.
Our power had been off for 15 minutes or so when I took these pics. Yahaira was the only little person up and quite honestly she was a bit puzzled as to why lights didn't just come on when you flipped the switch. (It would be safe to say that this 4 year old has no concept as to what life without electricity is like, actually her mom doesn't quite know what that life would be like, thank goodness!) She was relieved when I lit the candles so at least the house wasn't in complete darkness, then requested cartoons to which I replied "There is no power" (this was a common response this morning I'm afraid) "Could I have toast?" she next asked to which my response was "there is no power" And so it continued, until she simply stood in front of me with her arms thrown up and said "what can I do?" my suggestion of crawling back into those warm blankets and going back to sleep was met with a pretty grumpy look... sigh (kids just don't get it) so I suggested she could color or play with the kitchen toys by candlelight. Which actually did sound appealing to her. Within an hour and half we had our power back on, and life returned to normal. Although this mom is thinking that we need to unplug a few more things, a bit more frequently. Perhaps it's time to start reading the Little House on the Prairie books to my little ones.
